The Birkenhead Animal Rescue Centre in Gansbaai has had to close the doors of its charity shop and postpone a golf-day fundraiser, due to lockdown. This has put a serious strain on the financial situation of the organization, and a call for help is being sent to the community.
While most of the kennels furry residents have been placed into temporary foster care with concerned members of the community, a new dilemma faces the BARC team. Many pet owners in the greater Gansbaai area don’t have the money to feed their pets.
This has resulted in BARC donating the bulk of their dog and cat food stocks and they have distributed a whopping 260kg of pets food since the beginning of lockdown! Residents in Gansbaai, Masakhane, Blom Park and Pearly Beach have collected pre-portioned 500g bags from key points in their areas and BARC spokesperson, Nols, is planning more trips in the upcoming weeks.
There is a desperate need for more food and a plea goes out to anyone who goes food shopping to please include dog or cat food on their shopping list.
BARC has the necessary permits required to collect the donations from your home and Nols will wear a mask, gloves, and has hand sanitizer.
Please call Nols on 083 742 3903 or alternatively, please EFT any donation to the BARC bank account listed here:
