The Franskraal Buurtwag management extends warm wishes for a Blessed Christmas filled with love and peace.
With crime resurfacing in our area, it's crucial to stay vigilant about unfamiliar individuals or vehicles roaming around. It's not about being paranoid, but rather practicing good awareness of our surroundings to prevent crime and stay prepared. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:
1.1. Look out for each other. Get to know your neighbours and exchange phone numbers.
1.2. Form a street watch among neighbours to look out for one another and connect with your local Neighborhood Watch.
1.3. Always keep emergency numbers handy on your phone.
1.4. Carry a whistle with you to sound an alarm, especially when outdoors. This is particularly useful for older individuals who may need assistance.
1.5. Keep pepper spray nearby. Your neighbourhood watch sells it at cost.
1.6. Keep your home alarm remote handy to alert your security company and sound the alarm. Don't hesitate to press the panic button if you feel unsafe.
2.1. Install a home alarm system connected to a security company and add outdoor sensors (beams) to detect intruders before they break in.
2.2. Ensure your house number is prominently displayed and easily visible from the street.
2.3. Place your red Neighborhood Watch sign near the house number (it reflects at night, making the number visible to emergency personnel).
2.4. Trim unnecessary bushes and shrubs on your property and clear under trees to reduce hiding spots for unwanted individuals. Encourage your neighbours to do the same.
2.5. Illuminate your yard at night with outdoor lights independent of municipal/Eskom power.
2.6. Get actively involved in your neighbourhood watch. Not only as paying but also as vigilant members. All the patrollers you see at night are ordinary members going the extra mile for our community.
