The Funky Fynbos Festival MTB Race is one of those true mountain bike rides.  The routes traverse fynbos conservancies and farms with magnificent views over the mountains to the sea.  The climbs are tough and the descents along jeep tracks and purpose built single tracks full of exhilaration and fun.  Along the route there will be something for all to enjoy, whether you like technical riding and fast, fun downhills, or stunning views while riding in pristine fynbos with its fantastic flora and bird life.

Add to this the farm experience and hospitality, family activities and the Funky Fynbos Festival, a truly wonderful weekend getaway!

41km Monster

Deceptively short, this ride really is a monster, not for the feint hearted. The route is characterised by steep uphills, switchbacks and fast technical descents, with jumps, single track and fantastic views.

Local riders experience parts of this ride as the most difficult mountain bike in Gansbaai and the route has been extended for the race.

Expect to finish tired and exhilarated!

30km

The 30km ride is a fun route for the fit and strong with steep uphills and single track. You will be riding through private land on a route that is not normally available to the public. The route profile is the same in the beginning to the 41km Monster but allows you to avoid the sting in the tail.

Enjoy the view!

10km

This is a moderately easy ride for the not so fit that will get you out into the fynbos and give you a good workout.

Have fun!

Cape Mohair FynbosTrail Run

Every so often you find an absolute gem of a trail run, and the newly launched Fynbos Trail, through the Walker Bay Conservancy is just that. If you have ever driven down the R43 between the Overberg dorpies of Stanford and Gansbaai you most likely have no inkling of the treasures hidden in the hills to your left. For the first time runners have the opportunity to run this magnificent 30 km route (or one of two shorter routes) as part of the Rockets Funky Fynbos Festival that will be held on the 13 & 14 September 2014. The route meanders through hidden pockets of indigenous forest alive with birds, to Tolkeinesque dells of dense lichens, tumbling waterfalls and streams and, you guessed it, through exquisite fynbos.

30km

For the hard core trail runner there is the tough 30km route, usually hiked over three days. The run includes four relatively stiff climbs spread out along the route and runners will be treated to spectacular views from the summits of Swartkransberg, Pinnacle Peak, Grootberg and Windheuwel. The route includes plenty of custom made single track trail running including wooden board walks and ladders down to the Witvoetskloof waterfall and Stinkhoutsbos Forest on Flower Valley. The combination of spectacular Fynbos with fields of pincushions and proteas, shady forests, secret valleys and waterfall as well as the magnificent views along the route make this a must do for avid trail runners.

10km

The 10 km route takes runners through the beautiful Flower Valley, up over Windheuwel Peak with spectacular 360 degree views of mountain and sea and then down through the Lomond vineyards back to the start/finish in the Uilkraals Valley

6km

The 6m route is a relatively flat run through the beautiful Platbos Forest, the southernmost forest in Africa. The trail has many twists and turns and will keep you entranced as you run through this indigenous wonderland.
