Take a look at what some of our recent hiking guests had to say about their experience with The Fynbos Trail.
"Wonderful trees, fynbos, and views. Very comfortable accommodation. Helpful and informative staff/owners. Would do it again!" - Linda M (Windhoek, Namibia)
"My husband and I first did the trail 4 years ago with an excellent guide Christoff. Last week we came back with 4 friends and had another excellent guide, Billy. The variety of Fynbos was truly amazing along with Billy’s knowledge of the flora and fauna. Comfortable accommodation, good Cape food & good organisation made for a memorable trip. Would recommend 100%." - LPEnnistymon (Edinburgh, UK)
"Fascinating insights into the rich diversity, uniqueness and interconnectedness of all things when it comes to the Fynbos biome. The walk itself was not too strenuous but definitely felt like that glass of wine at the end of the day was well deserved. Wonderful knowledgeable guides who kept us spellbound over three days. Hope to be back." - Lindy Sinclair (Johannesburg, South Africa)
"This trail which traverses an unspoiled natural environment traverses a variety of fynbos (predominantly) and forest ecosystems. We (mostly couples in their 60s and two Millennials) opted for unguided and non-catered trek. Even the less fit amongst us found the going acceptable. The accommodation is ideal and the quality of the trail is mostly excellent." - Dreamer65364589844
"We were lucky enough to get a booking for this past weekend (we booked a year ago). From the moment we met Ian at the start til we walked the very last steps back to our vehicles at the end of the hike the experience was BLISS! The weather, the flowers, the views, the perfect camber of the terrain/trail-building, the number of animal tracks/scat, the interesting pollinators, the swim spots, the WATERFALL!, the accommodation, the hot tub, the people, the ancient forests... it was SO SO good. Truly fabulous and easy to follow the route. Ian and Sean were really great and helpful with some of our flower IDs as well. I am SO inspired to spend more time out this way and learn more about the Grootbos Foundation. Thank you all for making this place a paradise for all. Deep gratitude." - Lauren M (Cape Town, South Africa)
"What a treat to hike in a floral Kingdom that Sean Privett has documented every plant. The trail is well designed and planned and the accommodation and catering superb. Thank you for sharing your wonderful space." - Jane B (Cape Town)
"Our group of friends absolutely loved this hike! The fynbos and scenery were beautiful and the hosts were really well organised, helpful and accommodating. The area is a nature lover's paradise and an experience not to be missed." - Tanya T (Durban, South Africa)
"A magnificent walk through the flora of the Grootbos Nature Reserve. Our guide was so informative pointing out the unity and symbiosis in nature among, plants, animals, insects and birds. Highly recommend that hikers experience this walk with a guide. There is so much to learn. Our hosts are passionate in their endeavors to preserve this unique and beautiful floral kingdom." - 561margaretr (Cape Town Central, South Africa)
"This was an exceptional experience. Our group elected for a guided three-day hike through strandveld, forests and fynbos. Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative both on both species identification and the nature of plant life. The catering and accommodation were way beyond the expectations of hikers. I highly recommend the Fynbos Trail." - 653ken
"My daughter and I spent a week staying at the Buchu Cottage during which we were able to enjoy several walks on the Fynbos Trail, surrounded by this natural beauty throughout. The trail is in the heart of the best-preserved part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, which is unrivaled for its beauty and diversity. The guides all have extensive knowledge of fauna and flora and are always enthusiastic to share their knowledge with you. The accommodation is comfortable and clean and the ideal place to enjoy nature at its best." - Afrexplorer (Southampton, UK)
"The Fynbos Trail was an amazing all-girl getaway. So close to Cape Town and yet we felt like we were so far away from it all. The things we appreciated were: great communication before and during the trail, being met timeously at each arranged point, the trail was very well marked, fresh lemonade to welcome us at the end of each day, the cottages were so comfortable including nice bedlinen/fires laid ready for us and the food was delicious. Not to mention the trail itself, which was stunning." - Voyager13221408121 (Constantia, South Africa)
When a two-night 'getaway' feels like a week's rest, it ticks all the boxes. Well organised, and suitable for casual hikers who are not super-fit. Comfortable bed every night at two lovely cottages with tasty cooked meals by Sara. Our wonderful guide, Billy, taught us so much about the flora and fauna. Take your swimming costume along, even if you do not plan a swim in a dam, as the hot tub at the second night's cottage is a treat. Lovely wine tasting too. Highly recommended!" - HanlieCapeTown (Rondebosch, South Africa)
"I can highly recommend this hiking trail. We took the slack packing guided option which was an excellent choice. Billy, our guide has a wealth of knowledge and was very patient with photographers and "new" hikers and what a treat to sit down to a cooked meal. Ian did a great job with logistics and drinks were put on ice and ready for our arrival each day." - Zipslide
