The Fynbos Trail: Book for 2025!
The Fynbos Trail is fully booked for 2024, but you can secure your spot for 2025!
The past year 2014 was certainly a busy one for the trail and the team loved every minute of it. We made some awesome new friends and certainly hope to see a few of you back with us. Thank you for all the awesome reviews on Trip Advisor putting us in the number one spot for outdoor activities in our area.
We were also able to plant many trees as part of the Stinkhoutsbos reforestation project so thank you for the support. The spotting of leopard spoor prompted the purchase of a camera trap but we are still waiting to spot the elusive big cat. So far we have had porcupine, genets, bushbuck and some rather vain baboons. But we have a good feeling 2015 will be a good year to spot our resident leopard.
We are very excited for the season ahead which kicked off on the 19th January. This is a beautiful time to hike and the fynbos never fails to disappoint. Late summer going into autumn reveals some interesting specimens. We love the ground pincushions currently flowering. These beautiful flowers are pollinated at night by rodents attracted to the yeasty scent of the flowers, similar to baked bread. Others that show their beauty at this time of the year include the Aristea africana, Chironia tetragona, Bobartia indica, Edmondia sesamoides. Don't worry, we will show you what they are, and if you are doing the fully catered slackpacking option - which we highly recommend - then you will receive a copy of 'Field Guide to the Flora of Grootbos Nature Reserve'. See you on the trail....
