Under the Microscope: Bark Bling

This week at the Grootbos Foundation, we’re taking a closer look at something special found in our forests, bark bling!

These little treasures growing on tree bark may look like jewellery, but they’re actually lichens, mosses, and fungi. Each one plays an important role in the ecosystem, helping trees stay healthy and providing food and shelter for tiny creatures.

Keep your eyes open next time you’re in the forest, you never know what beautiful details you might spot on the bark!
