Fungi Facts at Grootbos

Not all mushrooms spread their spores through the wind. The Magpie ink cap does things a bit differently. As it decays, it turns into an inky paste. This sticky mess rubs off on animals as they pass by, helping the mushroom spread in a unique way.

And that bright red mushroom you might spot on the reserve? It’s a Blackening wax cap – another special member of the fungi world.

Nature is full of surprises. Keep your eyes open next time you explore Grootbos!
