The Overberg Geoscientists Group honours the life and legacy of Professor Stephen E. Haggerty, a pioneering geoscientist whose work transformed our understanding of Earth’s deep mantle, lunar geology, and diamond genesis.
From his early days in Germiston to his leadership roles at the University of Massachusetts and Florida International University, Steve’s career spanned continents and decades - marked by brilliance, mentorship, and a deep love for the science of the Earth.
Known for his research on kimberlites, lunar samples, and mantle mineralogy, Professor Haggerty’s influence extended across academia, industry, and generations of geologists who were inspired by his passion, curiosity, and generosity.
