Public Meeting (1 August 2025, Pearly Beach)

The Pearly Beach Ratepayers’ Association held a public meeting at the Dutch Reformed Church. Key updates included:

• Water supply: Brown water dam at 100% capacity; clear water dam at 75%.

• Citizen Collaborator App: Residents urged to use it for municipal queries/complaints. A 24/7 call centre has been added.

• Electricity tariffs: NERSA requires municipalities to separate cost of supply and availability charges. Over four years, tariffs will move to a single domestic consumption tariff. Currently in year 2 of rollout.

• Q&A session: Covered topics such as connection fees, water tower maintenance, recent power outage causes, off-grid tariff concerns, differences in municipal charges, higher costs when buying electricity later in the month, infrastructure tariffs (linked to a 10-year loan), and Masakhane protests over billing issues.

• Follow-up: Municipality clarified electricity connection costs (currently R11,108 for a 60-amp prepaid domestic meter).

The meeting closed at 17h30.
