Think Before You Dump Garbage

Let’s keep our neighbourhoods clean and manage waste correctly.

Earlier today, somebody dumped two rubbish bags next to a driveway along Clarence Drive in Betty’s Bay. The baboons ripped the bags open already.

This is despite the fact that Overstrand Municipality has transfer stations, drop-off facilities and dumping sites available, where builder’s rubble can be dumped.

The problem is, however, not limited to this area.

Residents are kindly requested to take responsibility of their waste and to immediately report any incidents of illegal dumping of household waste and garden refuse or builders’ rubble to Overstrand Law Enforcement on 028 313 8996. Unfortunately, illegal dumping is difficult to enforce “unless we catch somebody in the act”.

When you report unlawful dumping of household waste, garden refuse and/or builders’ rubble to Law Enforcement, please provide as much information as you can, like the names of alleged perpetrators, vehicle registration or colour of the vehicle and the type of waste. You don’t need a photograph of the perpetrator, but it will strengthen the case for a warning or fine to be issued.

Don’t let illegal dumpers get away with it. Report it.
