LIFE SIZE BUST IN STONEWARE CLAY

SUITABLE FOR OUTDOOR USE.

Beginners are welcome.

Quick “user-friendly” work method.

The first lesson covers structure, anatomy, facial expression and distortion to express emotion and mood, you will experiment by creating a number of small masks and faces to explore these. After this exercise, you will feel more confident about handling facial structure, play with it to suit your style, understand 3D and the medium of fired ceramic clay.

ALL WORK WILL BE FIRED - including your first lesson studies.

Morning classes start on Wednesday, 14 April and Thursday, 15 April 2021 at 09:30 - 12:30.

Limited to 4 per class.

Saturday afternoon class starts on 24 April 2021. Limit 4 per class.

After the 4th lesson, in each course, we will break for 2 weeks to allow for drying and firing. Then we will complete the process in the next 2-3 weeks. Check your calendar for the exact dates.

COST: R1700 - Includes Materials and Tuition: *Use of Studio Equipment, *2 Firings & *15 Kg of Stoneware Clay.

Deposit of total fee to secure booking R850.

Balance to be paid on the first day before starting R850.

After the essential introductory practice lesson, participants can draw inspiration from their own world, the History of Art, turn favourite 2D paintings into 3D sculptures eg Modigliani Chagall Picasso, Biblical figures, Ancient Greek sculpture, Roman Egyptian Etruscan. Or portraits of people you know, imagine or wish they existed.

A variety of art books and visual materials will be available to look at or take notes.

Bring along your digital camera or smartphones- in case you find something interesting you would like to use. An image from some obscure magazine or an old book, the internet might have missed.

People who miss a class will be able to make up for that time at pre-arranged lessons. Not applicable to the introductory class.

For the more “practical” among you:

Convert the bust or half torso into plant containers, bird feeders, hiding places for personal objects or a “hanger” for earrings, beads and other jewellery on your dressing table.

I will help you individually with the execution of your ideas should you need it. May you also, like some excited beginners, get so involved in your sculptures that you start talking to them and forget all about the people around you!

COVID Precautions: Cross Ventilation - Social Distance - Hand Sanitizing - Separate Towels - Masks Close and Ready.

1. CROSS VENTILATION

One window and one door will remain open. Being opposite the sea there is often a slight breeze. Put one or two thin jerseys or long sleeve t-shirts in your bag in case you feel chilly. Heavy coats or windbreakers may restrict your movements and not be comfortable while working. If you have sensitive ears add a beanie.

2. SOCIAL DISTANCE

Classes will be limited to 4 per group.

A 5th place will be reserved for 1 student from another class who might need to make up for a class missed.

3. HAND SANITIZER, LIQUID SOAP AND SEPARATE TOWELS will be provided in class.

4. MASKS

keep them handy on a string around your neck that you can grab them quickly when you need them or people get too close. You all know the basics.
