The Hermanus Whale Festival is the annual event that celebrates the Southern Right Whales that frequent Walker Bay from July to December. Usually there are approximately 30 artists performing over the five day festival and it serves as an enticing festivity in between learning about the ocean and its precious life at the Marine Endangered Species Marquee.
For those looking to get their heart pumping there are several adventure activities. Usually there is an open water swim, a night run, an MTB challenge and a trail run. Pick your adventure to show your support for the gentle giants of the ocean and to really join the spirit of the festival. There are many other shows such as the Whale of a Waggle walk, Whales ‘n Wheels Car Show, Flower Show, Bowls Tournament to mention a few.
Between all the fun festival goers will undoubtedly build up an appetite. There are many restaurants in Hermanus from seaside dining to cosy local favourites that serve a mouth-watering cuisine that can have both traditional and international influence. You also never need to be far from the festivities as there are plenty of restaurants that line the Waterfront and Village Square.
