Meet Mike Kemp, a skilled leather craftsman based in De Kelders, Gansbaai.
We love the magnificence of nature’s diversity that embodies winter sunsets in Gansbaai. One of our all-time favourite spots to watch the sun go down, at the end of another beautiful day in the Overberg, is at the lookout point above Gansbaai Harbour.
There can be no greater sense of peace and belonging than when you sit on one of Gansbaai’s harbour walls and bid farewell to the day, with your most special person by your side.
Whether Gansbaai’s beloved fishing trawlers lie scattered across the bay as they go about their business or are moored neatly next to each other in the new harbour, their nostalgic presence makes for an extra special addition to the already stunning setting.
As the sun makes its way towards new sunrises in other time zones, its technicolour journey transforms Walker Bay into an ever-changing paint palette. When winter’s clouds partake in the joyful fire dance, sunset often culminates in a crescendo of blinding brilliance. It’s as if the sun's rays are sparks setting the clouds alight before they all dive into the flaming ocean at once. Sunny winter days are bid farewell with more gradual, gentle strokes of pastel pinks, blues and yellows but one thing is for sure, every day yields a new and unique live show never to be repeated. Remember to try and catch sight of the legendary “green flash” just as the orange jelly-tot dips below the horizon!
