To prevent injury when using a backpack, the academy suggests:
1. Always use both shoulder straps.
2. Tighten the straps to keep the load closer to the back.
3. Organize items so that heavy things are low and toward the bag's center.
4. Only carry items that are required for the day.
5. Lift properly by bending at the knees when picking up a backpack.
6. Consider using a cross-body bag as an alternative.
