Friday, 26 June 2026 was school break-up day, as children across South Africa go on the mid-year winter holiday. The junior hockey programme of Grootbos Foundation headed out into the fynbos for the weekend, where they will enjoy nature, hockey skills development, teamwork and fun together. We can't wait to hear about their favourite part when they return next week.

The whole weekend programme and menu have been developed and planned by the young hockey coaches themselves, keen to develop their sport and their own personal leadership skills.

They have senior coaches close by for safeguarding purposes, but the camp is fully in the control and care of the junior hockey coaches.

On this day, we bid farewell to Natasha Bredekamp, sports development programme manager, who has decided to move on from Grootbos Foundation. All the children and coaches turned out at the sports field to thank Natasha and to wish her well in the next phase of her career.

Thank you to Natasha for her passion, energy, dedication to sports, and genuine care for children over the years.
