Pollinator Research at Grootbos Nature Reserve

It might look like the Conservation Research team is lounging in the winter sunshine, but this is actually research in action... Marelise and Carly are waiting for pollinators to land on flowers so they can photograph them. It's hard work, but someone has to do it in the name of science.

This is a collage of camera trap photographs which captures pollinator data in a different way. Over just 2 days, this camera trap photographed a vlei rat, striped grass mouse, and Brant's climbing mouse on the Protea subulifolia. The Malachite sunbird female and Cisticola are also photographed in action but are suspected to be non-pollinating visitors.

This is Moraea tricolour flowering in abundance now at one of the Micro Frog monitoring sites. This is a variable, endangered species that grows on wet sand and clay flats.
