This week's Grootbos Foundation news starts with a sports update: Grassroots Soccer Skillz is a curriculum delivered by Grootbos Foundation coaches within the school timetable, where Physical Education/ Outdoor lessons are used to teach life skills through play and gross motor skills. The topic this week with these Grade 6s was to identify ones supporters/ support network, which includes parents, teachers, mentors, healthcare staff, etc. A reliable support network is necessary to ensure healthy personal and emotional development.

This is a different Grassroots Soccer Skillz session with another class of Grade 6s who are learning about HIV/ Aids during Life Orientation with Grootbos Foundation coaches.

This photo was taken at the U16 Female Rugby match played in Struisbaai on Wednesday this week between Grootbos Foundation and a team from Struisbaai. Unfortunately, the final score was 5-17 to Struisbaai but the match held many wins for the Grootbos Foundation team: they managed to score a try and at the end of the match, they received a round of applause from the Struisbaai team for their courage and tenacity throughout the match. The Grootbos team was made up of players from U14, U15 and U16 who used the opportunity to play together as a team. Afterwards, a local Struisbaai business sponsored meals of fish & chips for all the players, which quickly made up for any disappointment

The Grootbos cross-country juniors and seniors ran time trials this week at Spaces4Sport where they chased their own personal best times. This photo was snapped as some of them raced along the fence line, chasing each other and their own PB times, some even running barefoot in their school uniforms, showing that if afternoon sports activities are fun enough, kids can't stay away.

The sports vehicle was stickered up with Grootbos Foundation logos this week so that wherever it goes, it will be recognised as transporting future champions at life!
