Today, we were treated to warm, calm weather out at sea, making for a fantastic day!
It was once more a flat day as we headed out to our dive site. Once we arrived our guests got into their wetsuits, and the moment the copper sharks arrived, jumped into the cage. The copper sharks were consistently active throughout the trip, swimming past our divers repeatedly. A cape fur seal came around and sunbathed around the Slashfin for a while. While the wind picked up slightly towards the end of the trip, overall our guests had an amazing time.
With a slight westerly wind blowing, we set out on trip two to see what the ocean had in store for us. After picking up our cage and anchoring, we checked out the visibly, which was a comfortable 1m and then started our dive. We got to see some beautiful, large Copper Sharks coming around, most of which appeared to be female sharks. We had a few that we have identified on previous trips, including a female who has lost the tip of her tail. Our divers were treated to a few close passes from these majestic animals, and we also had a Cape Fur Seal hanging around the boat. This seal was giving us a great show, chasing and catching the Southern Mullet Fish around the boat. It’s always fascinating to see how much more energy mammals are willing to expend when hunting, and we all really enjoyed watching this fluffy apex predator strut her stuff.
Trip 3 also had a fun time out at sea, spending our tour with the Copper Sharks once more. These requiem sharks were very curious, coming in and out of the area around the cage, sometimes moving from the deep up to the bait line for investigation. We always feel very lucky to get to see these beauties around the boat, and on this trip we also got to see a couple of smaller individuals. The water was a little chilly today, so after our groups dived, they were given some hot chocolate to warm up before we made our way back into the harbour.
