Bruce has worked across a broad spectrum of geoscience applications, from Archaean to modern settings, and from regional geology to environmental studies. His research focuses on geochronology, isotope geochemistry, and the development of several open-source, online international database systems (DateView, StratDB, DepIso) as well as the PalaeoPlates plate reconstruction model.
His presentation on 4th September will illustrate dynamic spatial and temporal visualisation of geological maps, using the Archaean to Palaeoproterozoic evolution of the Kalahari Craton and proposed Vaalbara as examples. Expect a fresh perspective on the geology of the Witwatersrand Basin, the Limpopo Belt, and the Bushveld Complex.
Much of Bruce’s work has been collaborative, spanning southern Africa, Canada, Australia, and the USA, including contributions to IGCP projects 509 and 648 and the Deep-time Digital Earth (DDE) project.
