Riviersonderend Weather

Riviersonderend’s weather leans towards a Mediterranean-like climate. This means the summers are dry and very hot, while the winters bring snow-capped peaks and rainy conditions which intermingle with sunny days.

In summer, from December until the end of February, the Riviersonderend climate turns dry and hot, reaching average temperatures of 30°C or more during the day.

In Riviersondered, July and August have the highest rainfall measurements in this town which is part of an area known as Theewaterskloof in the Overberg. During the peak winter season, many outdoor activities, such as golfing, bowls and canoeing are inaccessible due to flooded grounds and raging river rapids. This is also the time snow falls on the Sonderberg mountain range. These ice-capped mountains, which overlook the town, can drop the temperature to as low as 4°C at night and provide a unique aesthetic beauty to the area. The occasional sunny day during the winter months means you can still explore one of the many hiking trails, or go birdwatching.
