Here’s a quick look at this week’s highlights, community updates, and important notices happening.

A punchy picture of an impressive mole snake being expertly handled by one of the Grootbos Field Rangers, Yolanda. He is part of a small team of rangers that works full time on the reserve and within the fynbos landscape managing roads, trails, fire breaks, and more. At this time of spring, they are more likely to encounter snakes basking in the sunshine, and part of their training has included how to safely handle snakes, and respectfully recognize their place in the ecosystem.
Yolanda demonstrates how he has learnt to delight in wild nature, a conservation attitude that permeates all aspects of work at Grootbos. Mole snakes are non-venomous and harmless to humans despite their impressive size. Their favourite snacks are golden moles and other small rodents they find by burrowing underground, and then constricting.
