The beautiful historical buildings that line the lanes of the town make you feel like you’ve immediately gone back in time. The locals have not been left behind in centuries passed, and know how to enjoy the all of the technology and conveniences that the twenty first century has to offer. They just like to do it in a quiet, understated way that doesn’t interrupt the country living pace of the region. Instead they use modern conveniences to enhance the area.

For example, the wine estates that you can visit around Swellendam use some of the very best winemaking techniques to ensure that their vintages are top notch. Be sure to plan your visits so that you can sample the varietals on offer, perhaps enjoy a meal at one of the estates and take in the tranquil beauty of each place. Some of the farming techniques in the area might be state of the art, but that doesn’t mean that the charm of country living has disappeared.

If, on the other hand, you want to get away from any and all hubbub and connectivity, you can escape into the nature reserves or the mountains very easily.
