Of her achievement, graduate Joyce Ngwenya said, “I really enjoyed the course and have a better understanding of how the Municipal By-Laws work and how much better our lives can be if used and applied correctly. It’s really great that with this knowledge we can now offer support and assistance to the law enforcement officials and our community to ensure a safer and more secure environment for us all.”

In her keynote address, Overstrand Mayor Nicolette Botha-Guthrie encouraged the graduates to build on the experience, saying “Whilst it is clear that the Masakhane community will benefit greatly from your input, the completion of this course can also potentially open doors to future employment opportunities.  When that happens, embrace it and do all that you can to realise your best potential.”

The two-day training programme that took place in November last year, centred on the various Municipal By-Laws and the correct application and enforcement thereof – all of which could contribute to the general improvement and wellbeing of communities.

In closing, the Mayor left the audience with a quote from past President Nelson Mandela, which she felt best encapsulated the moment: “There are so many men and women who hold no distinctive positions but whose contribution towards the development of society has been enormous.”
