African Penguin Promises Waddle

The 6th annual Penguin Promises Waddle for a Week will take place from 11 to 16 April 2016. The Waddlers will set off from Gansbaai and walk their way to Simon’s Town over a period of 6 days. Along the way they will raise much-needed awareness about the plight of the endangered African penguin, as well as the environment, and collect promises as part of the Penguin Promises campaign.

To show our support for this initiative Gansbaai Tourism is encouraging schools, organisations  and  members of the public to walk a short distance with these waddlers on Monday 11 April. We will meet at the African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary (APSS) at 08:30 and waddle with them to the De Kelders entrance (Gurthrie street). Transport will be available back to the APSS. Wear black and white and come and join us! (sms 072-291-5564 if you are going to join us so that we can ensure there is sufficient transport).

“The main thing I'm looking forward to is the opportunity to make a positive impact, The Penguin Promises Waddle for a Week started in 2011 and is a PAAZA (African Association of Zoos and however small, on the  future  of African sea birds through education. I fully believe that if I can convince just a few people to make small positive changes in their lifestyles whilst either on the Waddle or back home at the zoo, then all the effort will have paid of,” said Leitza Gorman from Devon Zoo.
