The principal of Gansbaai Academia, Mr Tommy Wilson, was on target with his projection last year of a 95% matric pass rate.
The class of 2016 exceeded all expectations with their performance in the 2016 NSS examinations and showed the best results in the past five years.
Gansbaai Academia started with 90 matriculants, with 11 that were Norm progressed.
In 2012 the school had a pass percentage of 92,5 %, in 2013 it was 93,5 %, in 2014 it was 89,5 % and in 2015 it was 88,5%. 2016 shows an improvement of almost 6 % to an excellent 94.5%.

The Head Boy, Analo Yawa, really made the school proud.
He obtained A - aggregates in 6 of his 7 subjects and an overall pass percentage of 82,5%.
His results are as follow: Isixhosa Home Language 80%, English FAL 86%, Mathematics 80%, LO 85%, Accounting 84%, Physics 86 % and Life Sciences 78%.
He is on his way to the University of the Free State to study B.Sc (medicine) and to join three of the shool’s former students, Bianca de Coning, Andisiwe Welana and Simphiwe Yana.
15 other learners obtained A symbols: Sonja-Lee Spandiel (Head Girl) obtained 81% in Afrikaans Home Language; Stefan Joubert 82% in Mathematical Literacy and Life Orientation 80%; Chanelle Perumal obtained 80% in Business Studies; Luntu Moss obtained 93% in Business Studies; Khalipha Pike 90% in Business Stu-dies; Shirley Yotsi (Deputy Head Girl) 84% in Business Studies; Johan van der Merwe 81% in English FAL; Micaela Cornelius 80% in Life Orientation.
Furthermore 24 learners received Bachelor passes, 48 learners’ diploma passes and 7 achieved the Higher Certificate.
Only 4 learners failed this examination, but will have a chance to write the Supplementary Examination in February / March 2017.
Overberg takes 1st place country wide
Gansbaai Academia is extremely proud of their grade 12 learners performing so well under severely challenged circumstances.
Gansbaai Academia also performed well in the Overberg Education District, who are 1st in the whole country.
The District Director, Mr Bertram Loriston, congratulated the school with the good results and conveyed his thanks to the teachers of Academia.

Thank you for trusting us to take your children to excellence,” said Carien Fortuin, Deputy Principal and Grade Head. “Thank you to our Principal and the SGB for the direction that you are giving and all wonderful committed teachers who walk the extra mile for our kids. We are hopeful that we will have a 100% pass in 2017.”
