Villiersdorp is completely surrounded by mountains. This is particularly highlighted when driving back from Caledon and the vista of the Villiersdorp valley is revealed. On this particular day, the Theewaterskloof Dam glistened in the sun as we approached.
We have lived in Villiersdorp for 12 years now and never tire of the ever changing scenery and seasons.
On one of the mountains just above Villiersdorp we could look down on the town itself and beyond to the dam framed by the sweeping farmlands highlighted by bright brushstrokes of yellow canola fields.
Underfoot, there was a new and vital "Fynbos Carpet" of young plants emerging after the area was scortched by fire last year. The vibrant shades of the new growth in stark contrast to the black and silver stalks of burnt protea bushes. Bushes burnt, but even these remains still beautiful with a stark, sculpural quality.
