Got a Love for Words? Come Join Gansveer in Gansbaai!

Writers, poets, storytellers and word lovers, this invitation is for you!

Have you ever written a poem and kept it hidden in a drawer? Do you have stories running around in your head, memories worth sharing, or a vivid imagination that sometimes takes you to unexpected places? Perhaps you have always wanted to write but never knew where to start.

Then you might just find your place at Gansveer!

Gansveer is a friendly, bilingual creative writing community in Gansbaai where words bring people together. We write, read, share, listen, laugh and challenge one another to look at the world a little differently.

And no, you don’t have to be a published author, an accomplished poet or someone who knows all the rules of writing. You don’t even have to call yourself a writer yet!

You simply need an interest in words and a willingness to give your imagination some room to play.

What happens at Gansveer?

Our gatherings include monthly writing challenges, poetry, short stories, personal memories, imaginative adventures and sometimes wonderfully unexpected ideas. We explore different ways of expressing ourselves, discover new perspectives and enjoy hearing how differently people can interpret the same theme.

Some pieces make us laugh. Others make us think. Some touch the heart, while others leave us wondering how on earth someone came up with that idea!

We welcome both Afrikaans and English writers, whether you prefer to write, read your work aloud, listen to others or simply enjoy being part of a creative community.

Gansveer is completely free to join. There are no membership fees and no pressure to be perfect. This is a space to experiment, learn, share and grow together.

We meet on the third Wednesday of every month at the Groot Wit Huis in Gansbaai.

Our next writing challenge is “Dear…”, inviting participants to write a poem addressed to anyone they choose. It could be someone they love, admire, miss, dislike or have never even met. The possibilities are endless!
