Elim Home Annual Report 2023/2024

Elim Home remains committed to providing exceptional care for individuals with severe intellectual and physical disabilities. This year’s report reflects the incredible work of our staff, management, volunteers, and supporters. Here’s a detailed look at key updates:

Mission and Vision:

We focus on creating an enabling environment where residents can lead dignified lives, offering 24-hour nursing care, and enhancing self-skills through occupational therapy. Our holistic programs empower both residents and staff, ensuring the best possible care.

Achievements:

• Successfully provided 50 residents with full-time care, admitting 4 new residents.
• Continued efforts to enrich lives through individual therapy programs and group activities designed to improve strength and minimize physical deformities.
• Significant contributions from donors and local businesses have helped secure funding for various projects.

Challenges and Opportunities:

Despite facing financial difficulties in an unstable economic climate, the Home continues to thrive through dedicated teamwork and external support. Recruiting professional staff remains a challenge due to Elim's remote location, but ongoing training empowers the current staff to meet the complex medical needs of aging clients.

Key Projects and Future Goals:

• Solar Project: Moving into Phase Two, aiming to reduce electricity costs and improve sustainability.
• Agriculture: Continued development of vegetable gardens to provide fresh produce for the kitchen and income generation through surplus sales.
• Gansbaai and Bredasdorp Outreach: Providing much-needed care to clients with severe medical conditions in partnership with local communities.
• Maintenance and Facility Upgrades: Major projects include roofing, plumbing, and courtyard upgrades, ensuring safe and accessible spaces for all residents.

In Memoriam:

We honour the memories of two residents, Zhukanye Zono and Deon Goliath, who passed this year, with deep gratitude to the carers who supported them.

Community and Support:

Elim Home’s work is only possible through the ongoing generosity of donors, local businesses, and international partners. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to contribute financially, emotionally, and spiritually to our mission.
