Choosing the Right Paint Colour? Test It Properly!

Found a colour you love but not sure how it will look on your walls? Before you blame the paint, make sure you’re testing it the right way.

• Paint two coats, one thin coat won’t give you the true colour.
• Use an A2-sized board, it can be moved around the room to see how the colour changes in different spaces.
• Leave a border around your test patch, your existing wall colour can affect how you see the new colour.
• Check it morning, midday and at night, natural and artificial light can make a big difference.
• Let it dry for a full day, wet paint is not the final colour.

The direction your room faces also matters. The same colour can look warmer in a north-facing room and cooler or greyer in a south-facing room.
