Grabouw and the Elgin Valley are synonymous with deciduous fruit farming, particularly apples and pears. From the early part of the 20th century, the area has been known for its quality produce, and even today, a large percentage of each harvest is exported. A petrol station as well as towing and auto repair services are also available.

There are various educational facilities in Grabouw and the greater Elgin Valley region, including preparatory schools, learning foundations, high schools and colleges. Various real estate agents operate in the area and can assist with purchasing a variety of properties, both residential and commercial. These include branches of nationwide real estate franchises or property agents that only operate within Grabouw and the Elgin Valley. There are also architects and design firms in the town that support the building of homes and businesses.
