Discover the Magic of PaardenKloof Estate

At PaardenKloof, we believe that the essence of great wine begins in the vineyard, where 80% of the work is done before the grapes ever reach the cellar. This philosophy drives everything we do and ensures that each bottle captures the distinct character of our cool-climate region.

A Unique Approach to Winemaking

At PaardenKloof, we take pride in our single-vineyard approach, allowing our wines to express the purity and complexity of our land. Our vineyards are influenced by the cool maritime climate, which gives our wines their signature freshness and balance. From soil to bottle, every step of the process is meticulously managed to preserve the integrity of our grapes and produce wines that reflect our commitment to quality.

Our premium range of wines embodies this dedication. Each bottle is 100% varietal expressive, showcasing the unique traits of Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc. We also honor the artistic legacy of South African icon Peter Clarke, whose artwork is proudly featured on some of our wine labels, adding a touch of cultural heritage to our handcrafted wines.

Introducing the Ataqua Reserve Range

Our Ataqua Reserve Range is named to honor the indigenous Khoisan and Khoi-Khoi tribes, who were the original inhabitants of the region between the Cape of Good Hope and Knysna. The name “Ataqua” is derived from these communities, whose deep connection to the land and rich understanding of the local flora and fauna inspired us to create a collection of wines that celebrate their legacy.

This reserve range is meticulously crafted from select barrels, chosen to reflect the complexity, elegance, and authenticity of our terroir. Each wine in the Ataqua Reserve Range is a tribute to the Khoisan’s heritage and their remarkable knowledge of over 2,600 plant species that are native to our environment. The wines are made in limited quantities, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and exclusivity.

Our Ataqua “Heartsong” Pinot Noir, for example, is a beautiful representation of our commitment to quality and the natural elegance of Pinot Noir. The Ataqua Shiraz and Ataqua Cabernet Sauvignon offer a harmonious balance of flavors, with layers of complexity that unfold with every sip. These wines not only capture the unique spirit of our land but also serve as a testament to the indigenous wisdom that has shaped this region for millennia.

A Legacy of Sustainability and Heritage

PaardenKloof is one of the first farms in the Western Cape to reintroduce the indigenous Nguni cattle, an initiative that reflects our commitment to sustainable agriculture and respect for the land’s history. These hardy and disease-resistant cattle are a nod to the Khoisan’s agricultural practices, thriving naturally in our environment and adding to the biodiversity of our estate.

Our approach to sustainability extends beyond our vineyards and cattle. We are dedicated to responsible land management and eco-friendly farming practices, ensuring that PaardenKloof remains a sanctuary for future generations.

For those who appreciate exceptional wines, our collections offer a range of choices. The Springtide 2020 Sauvignon Blanc, for example, is a standout wine that continues to impress with its aging potential and vibrant character. Meanwhile, our Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon consistently deliver bold flavors and a true sense of place.
