Week 8

When exploring Arniston be sure to take a walk to the iconic limestone cave in the Waenhuiskrans Nature Reserve at Kassiesbaai. Explorers will need to wait for low-tide before making their way through the shallow water to the cave entrance which is about a kilometre from the hikes starting point. Wear comfortable shoes and take it easy as you navigate the slippery, seaweed-strewn rocks that lie beneath the water’s surface.

This is undoubtedly the mother of all caves and it is plain to see why early travellers joked that you could easily turn an ox-wagon with a full span of oxen in it!

Question 9 - What is the history behind the Ox-Wagon Monument in Napier?

Answer to Question 8 - A large limestone cave can be found on the beach at Kassiesbaai in Arniston.
