Surf4Life Cape Agulhas Surf Contest 2019
Sunny blue skies, perfect waves and the wonderful community support provided the perfect backdrop to the second annual Surf4Life Cape Agulhas Surf Contest. The 2-day contest which is the initiative of Robbie from Robbie’s surf lessons was held over the weekend of the 18 and 19th of May 2019 at the Struisbaai beach.
Surf4Life is a Non-Profit Organisation based in Strand that teaches underprivileged children how to surf. We are so grateful for this opportunity and are pleased to announce that we raised R6000 to help support the surf clinics.
The event drew 60 junior surfers from all ages and included surfers from Cape Agulhas, Strand and Melkbos - the youngest competitor was only 5 years old! The event ran smoothly with commentator Mat Marais keeping the crowd entertained and occasionally checking in with the local fisherman. Amongst the official committee were two-level judges Dillon Fernandez and Avro Johnson who have just returned from a Men's Qualifying Series 1000 in Senegal. We thank you for your input and support!
Alongside the surfing competition Surf4Life also invited children from the local community to teach them fitness and surfing skills.
The local community together with all the sponsors blew us away with their generous support and dedication to make this event possible. A big thank you and see you at next year’s event.
