SUMMER WATER ALERT
Residents Asked to Use Water Sparingly
Summer typically brings higher water usage, and with the influx of holidaymakers visiting the Overstrand, there is increased pressure on our infrastructure. Residents and visitors are reminded to be mindful of their water consumption throughout the December holiday period.
While individual households may use relatively small amounts of water, collectively they have the greatest impact on our water supply.
By adopting a culture of water-wise habits and using less water wherever possible, we can ensure that our dams and reservoirs remain at healthy levels.
It’s the Small Things That Help Save Water:
* Ensure taps are properly closed.
* Check for leaks and fix them promptly.
* Cut back on shower time.
* Turn off taps while brushing teeth, soaping up, or shaving.
* Toilets are heavy water users - flush only when needed.
* Collect grey water for flushing toilets where possible.
* Wait for a full load before using washing machines and dishwashers.
* Cover swimming pools when not in use, recycle backwash, and top up with rainwater or alternative water sources.
* Periodically check irrigation equipment and connections to save water and reduce bills.
* Check irrigation controllers (timers) regularly.
* Water gardens only before 09:00 or after 17:00 to reduce evaporation
