How Your Emotional State Shapes Your Life
How does your current state serve you?
We become familiar with our discomfort.
So familiar, in fact, that it can begin to feel like home.
We reach a certain level of comfort in what is uncomfortable. We know how to function there. We know what to expect. And even when we desperately want something different, we can find ourselves returning to the same emotional patterns and telling ourselves:
“This is just what life has become.”
How often do you hear yourself saying:
• I am tired.
• Life is stressful.
• I can't get ahead.
• There is just too much going on.
• Things never seem to change.
I am not asking you to deny what is happening in your life.
I am asking you to look a little deeper.
How might you be perpetuating the current state you find yourself in?
Our emotional states can become habitual. We can unconsciously remain in stress, fear, anxiety or anger long after the original situation that created those emotions has changed or been resolved.
The event may be over.
But the emotional pattern remains.
And when we repeatedly experience the same emotional state, it becomes familiar. Familiar becomes comfortable. And comfortable can become incredibly difficult to leave - even when we know we want something different.
This is where awareness becomes powerful.
Instead of asking only, “Why is this happening to me?”
Try asking:
“What am I practising emotionally every day?”
And then look for something different.
What can you feel genuinely happy about today?
What can you appreciate?
What can you be grateful for?
What can you love?
It doesn't have to be something enormous.
Sometimes it is a conversation, a cup of coffee, sunlight through a window, a walk outside, someone who makes you laugh, or simply a moment where you realise that you are okay.
The more deliberately you teach yourself to recognise the blessings in your life, the easier it becomes to find them when life becomes difficult.
You are not denying the hard things.
You are expanding your ability to experience something beyond them.
Your familiarity may need an upgrade.
And sometimes transformation begins simply by becoming aware of what you have become accustomed to feeling.
Master Your Beliefs.
Master Your Future.
