Be Ready to Verify and Register for Subsidised Housing

Overstrand Municipality's housing waiting list verification and registration drive kicked off at the beginning of April.

Residents in need of government subsidised housing will have the opportunity to complete waiting list application forms as first-time applicants or verify/update details already on the system.

There are 13 923 applicants currently registered on the database, but information of many applicants may be incomplete or out-dated. The housing department often finds that beneficiaries do not update their information with regards to changes in income, number of financial dependents, change of address, etc.

The income band for Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP) has increased in July 2018 from R15,000 to R22,000 and it therefore creates an opportunity for more residents to register/verify their information.

"It is critical that the database we work from is as up to date and accurate as possible," says Municipal Manager, Dean O'Neill.

The housing demand for Overstrand Municipality is also placed on the Provincial housing demand database and therefore it is of utmost importance that affected beneficiaries co-operate in their own interest.

The new and updated Housing Demand Database drive will ultimately help us with planning of future housing projects.

Only one application per household will be accepted. When you verify or update your information, please bring along certified copies of as many of the following documents as you have in your possession: ID document (as well as the IDs of all your financial dependants), Marriage certificate, Birth certificate, Death certificate, Divorce certificate, Pay slip, Reference number for child grant, Reference number for pension or disability grant.

To qualify for a housing subsidy, you must:

•    Be a South African citizen.
•    Be 18 years and older.
•    Be married or habitually cohabit with a long-term partner.
•    Be single and have financial dependants.
•    Not have received a government subsidy for housing before.
•    Not owned a house in the past.
•    Must be registered on the housing demand database for a minimum period of three (3) years.
