New Home in Caesar Road
New home in Caesar Road designed by Andrew Horne of Ai Architects.
This small home and studio were designed to make the most of the light, the sea view over adjoining houses, and the mountain views to the South East while maintaining the indigenous trees and shrubs as much as possible.
The house has a 150m2 foot print on the 600m2 stand. The balance of the property will comprise of permeable paving and indigenous fynbos with no lawns. A solar hot water system and excellent insulation (in the roof and also under the suspended timber floor) combined with careful orientation of major doors and windows ensure an energy-efficient and comfortable environment.
GreenPlan of Stellenbosch Technopark prepared the rational assessment of energy efficiency and we have implemented all their required specifications while keeping a firm grip on the finances. The main contractor, Jason Mantell of JP Construction in Pringle Bay has applied his sharpest pencil (Marelise - his wife and partner) to ensure that the build comes in at an exceptionally efficient ZAR 1,9 million including VAT!
