Suiderstrand, surrounded by the best that nature has to offer
Suiderstrand is an Afrikaans word meaning “Southern Beach” and is the name of a small coastal village surrounded by pristine beaches and the Agulhas National Park.
The sleepy village has an abundance of natural beauty that continues to flourish within the protected area of Agulhas National Park. The park’s floral diversity includes over 2,000 indigenous plants of which 100 are endemic to the region. Dubbed the Agulhas Plain, Suiderstrand and the Agulhas National Park forms an important part of the Cape Floral Kingdom and is a safe haven for the unique and rare Elim (Laterite) Fynbos that can be seen in a few small patches throughout the reserve.
Many bird species make their nests in Suiderstrand and Agulhas National Park. The region is a birders paradise that hosts a variety of different habitats where birders can fill in the gaps in their birding books when they explore the large expanses of coastal Fynbos.
Just like it’s neighbouring towns L’Agulhas and Struisbaai, Suiderstrand has pristine beaches that stretch all the way to the Southernmost tip of Africa. Rock pools, a lagoon and virgin and pebbled beaches beckon those who love the great outdoors making it ideal for tranquil getaways.
