A visit to Pringle Bay and Rooi Els takes you along one of the Overberg’s most scenic coastal routes. Situated at the foot of Hangklip mountain directly opposite Cape Point the two towns and surrounding area are part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve which is a UNESCO Heritage Site.
Your destination is about halfway between Gordons Bay and Kleinmond. Directions to Pringle Bay are easy to follow and will take you off the N2 and onto the scenic Clarence Drive that is pleasantly free from major traffic flow.
The history of Pringle Bay dates back to the Stone Age and the surrounding mountains and coastline were once inhabited by nomadic tribes. Legend has it that many of the caves in the area are said to have been hideaways for pirates and runaway slaves. Nowadays the area is a haven for those wishing to escape from rushed city life as well as holidaymakers searching for a quiet retreat where they can take in the beauty of the Overberg.
Ocean lovers are in for a treat because, fishing, diving and other watersports rate top of the list of outdoor activities in Pringle Bay. For those who don’t have their own equipment, there are places in the villages where you can rent kayaks, paddleboards and surfboards for your watersport of choice.
