Council appoints new Municipal Manager for Cape Agulhas Municipality.

Cape Agulhas Municipality has appointed Mr Eben Phillips as the new Municipal Manager for Cape Agulhas Municipality.

Mr Eben Phillips is the current Director of Community Services at Knysna Municipality and has many years of experience in local government. Phillips is no stranger to Cape Agulhas Municipality where he was previously employed.

His appointment will be effective from 1 November 2020 when the current Municipal Manager, Mr Dean O’Neill, will start his tenure as the newly appointed Municipal Manager at the Overstrand Municipality.

A total of 20 applications (of which three were late) were received for the position and four candidates were, after proper screening, invited to attend the evaluation and interview sessions for the post. One candidate withdrew from the interview session.

The selection panel consisted of Executive Mayor Paul Swart (Chairperson), Adv Geraldine Mettler (Specialist - Municipal Manager of Stellenbosch Municipality), Cllr Derrick Burger (Portfolio Chairperson), Mr Graham Paulse (HoD Provincial Department of Local Government), Mr Omar Valley (Panel Member), Mr Roy Steele (Facilitator) and Ms Nombasa Mhlati-Musewe (Divisional Head: HR & OD).

The Executive Mayor, Paul Swart, has welcomed the appointment and said Council approved the appointment unanimously during a virtual Council meeting held earlier today, 29 September 2020. We have full confidence in Phillips’ capabilities, and we look forward to working with him.

Cape Agulhas Municipality would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Dean O’Neill for his exceptional leadership. During his tenure, we received 6 consecutive clean audits. We wish Mr Dean O’Neill all of the best with his new appointment and we are sure that he will make a huge success of it.
