Season's Greetings from Overberg Geoscientists Group!
As we approach the festive season, we would like to extend our warmest wishes for a joyful and restful holiday period. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated OGG Team, Support Services (Noleen, Gert, River, and Marilyn), Wives and Partners, Members, Donors, and all who contributed to the success of 2024.
This year, we hosted outstanding OGG Breakfasts and Presentations (including Zoom sessions) and celebrated successful field excursions like the Sea Point Contact, Large Igneous Provinces (LIPS) in August, and the Bot River Estuary. Our Earth Age Displays (EAD's) at HPG and Gansbaai have continued to inspire, attracting both local and national attention. Special thanks to Dave Mourant for facilitating regular guided tours at HPG throughout 2024.
Looking ahead, we are excited to explore the possibility of creating new EAD locations - perhaps in Cape Agulhas or Kruger National Park. Your suggestions for future projects are always appreciated!
We also want to acknowledge the efforts of River Thomas in marketing OGG, and the hard work by Richard Mourant and Travis Bristow on the OGG Website, which will be completed in early 2025. Our financials for 2024 are in progress, with CMV Accountants currently reviewing them, and we are hopeful that SARS will soon grant a meeting to move forward with the Section-18A requirement for donor tax-deductions.
Looking to 2025
We anticipate challenges, particularly in fundraising, but with the support of our dedicated members and partners, we are confident in our ability to meet them. Ideas discussed for future fundraising include thematic geological bike tracks and guided geological tours - stay tuned for more details!
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the holiday season with loved ones. Travel safely, and let’s look forward to another successful year together.
