Overstrand Wraps Up Women’s Month with Good Vibes
The end of August marked a vibrant and empowering weekend in the Overstrand as the Municipality wrapped up Women’s Month with two standout events: a Funding Information Session, followed by the Women’s Month Celebration Dance & Drama.
This was made possible through collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, the National Arts Council (NAC), the Community Arts Network (CACNET), and the Western Cape Language Committee.
The weekend’s activities highlighted the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to empowering women by providing access to information, economic opportunities, and celebrating their invaluable contributions to their communities.
The funding information session on Friday, 29 August 2025, in Mount Pleasant targeted individuals and organisations in the creative sector. Its purpose was to inform and educate the community about funding opportunities available from government departments and entities. Attendance exceeded expectations, with more participants than initially anticipated.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Archie Klaas, joined the programme on Saturday for the Women’s Month Celebration at Zwelihle Community Hall. The day began with exhibitions from various stakeholders. The Mayor emphasised that women are the cornerstones of their families.
Ward 10 Councillor Theresa Els, also SALGA Women’s Commissioner, agreed and encouraged the women of Overstrand, saying they have the responsibility and ability to grow strong communities and to help build an economy that benefits everyone.
Among the attendees were delegates from the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, including Mr Moleleki, and JC Smit from the Western Cape Language Committee.
The event closed on a high note with good vibes and some awesome local performances. Everyone left feeling inspired and ready to work hard to get South Africa moving again.
