We all have our guilty pleasures, but there are few as satisfying as enjoying an ice cold beer or shandy at the end of a long day.. or week. Getting together with your mates for a catch-up or hearing about the adventures of the travellers at the table next to you can be just what you need to forget about the worries of the week gone by. This is made even better as the local pubs in the Overberg also offer a full menu of nibbles like wood-fired pizzas or nachos and a spot where you can enjoy the game on a big screen TV. So this St. Patrick’s Day, we raise a glass and celebrate the Overberg way.
Here are some of our favourite pubs in the Overberg to enjoy a pint at:
Gunner’s Mess Restaurant & Pub in Napier
Located in the centre of the artistic little village of Napier, you’ll find the vibey Gunner’s Mess pub. After being welcomes by one of the owners, you can take a seat inside or choose to enjoy the fresh country air outside. Choose from a selection of lekker local beers and pair it with a hearty meal like mum used to make. The menu holds pub classics like bangers and mash as well as South African favourites like bobotie and can be enjoyed with a nice cold one or a cup of the friendliest rich Arabica coffee around.her
The Final Lap Sports Café in Stanford
Generally known for its peaceful atmosphere and leisurely activities, the historical village of Stanford also holds a touch of excitement. Head on down to the Final Lap Sports Café to mingle with the locals and catch the game on the big screens. The bar mostly screens Motor Sports, but other events are also televised. Be sure to stop in after a day of exploring the village and its treasures to get the latest scores and relax with a whiskey on ice.
Tipples Bar & Grill in Hermanus
After a long a day of exploring the attractions of the Overberg hub of Hermanus, there’s nothing quite like kicking up your feet (so to speak) and enjoying a refreshing cold beverage with a great atmosphere. And with Tipples Bar & Grill you get two great options to choose from! Head to Tipples Hermanus in the centre of town and experience where it all began or make your way to Tipples Onrus with its great views of the nearby lake and sparkling ocean on the horizon. Settle in for a full serving of tapas or a snack basket while sipping on a froth-capped draught or (Milk) Stout.
The Boathouse in Gansbaai
When heading to the Great White Shark Capital of the World you might want to stock up on some Dutch courage. So why not head down to the Gansbaai harbour where you can enjoy stunning views of Walker Bay and the Atlantic beyond while feasting on succulent seafood platters and enjoying the chatter of the locals. So raise a glass to the setting sun and savour the flavours of fresh seafood and sophisticated local wines in the small coastal village with a Great White heart.
Botrivier Hotel in Botrivier
The unofficial capital of Botrivier welcomes you with a warm smile and a cold drink. The historical Botrivier Hotel is well-known amongst locals and travellers alike for its friendly atmosphere and great local talent as they host a variety of musicians and social events throughout the year. Grab a front row seat to the entertainment and savour the experience with your pick of the award-winning wines and craft beer straight from the Botrivier wineries and breweries. This is one stop you definitely have to make when visiting the area.
With all the festivities of St. Patrick’s Day, we wish you a safe and responsible one! Many of the accommodations in the Overberg towns are within walking distance of these great pubs, so rather leave the keys at home and walk down to the merriment.
