Taking place every Saturday of the month, these markets showcase the true spirit of the village and the vibrancy of the bustling community. Hosted in the village square, the Saturday Markets offer a full variety of freshly baked treats, delicious ready-to-go meals, fresh farm produce, hand-crafted curios and much more. It is the fun, social get-together of the week and allows for the perfect opportunity to socialize with the local townsfolk and stock up on all your fresh produce for the week. And if by chance, you can’t make the Saturday Markets then definitely stop by the Stanford Sunset Market taking place every last Friday of the month.
Located at the crossroads to the Overberg and Cape Agulhas, Stanford holds another attraction that will interest nature-lovers in particular. The Overberg is home to around 200 different bird species and with the village located on the banks of the Klein River, Stanford is a natural birding hotspot. Making their homes amongst the reeds of the river and in the surrounding countryside, the small village plays host to a large array of bird species that call it their home. This colourful natural attraction has led many a bird-lover to Stanford and has also given birth to an annual birding festival. Taking place in October, Flocktober has become a major attraction to many all around the country. The annual festival includes talks and handling of the various bird species, guided river tours along the Klein River, of course bird-watching and much more to entertain and entice young and old alike.
