Coffee Shops in Stanford

Stanford can be described as a community of committed artists who joined forces to promote an authentic café culture along with an appreciation of the arts and crafts. This quaint village offers a chic coffee shop experience that rivals even some of the best found in tourist centres like Cape Town. If you just take a walk around this town you’ll notice several galleries and studios neighbouring tucked away delis and cafés to explore. These serve a whole range of delicious coffee and tea variants. Whether you’re looking for a straightforward cappuccino or some exotic chai tea, you’ll be spoilt for choice in any Stanford coffee shop.

One of the truly unique aspects of this area is that you can also enjoy a great cup of coffee and traditional delicacies on a number of the surrounding farms and estates. You can take in the spectacular Overberg scenery and landscapes while eating the freshest foods possible. This includes baked goods right from the farm oven and salads filled with just-picked garden greens. Some of the typical foods on offer include butternut lasagne and Thai cashew nut curry, as well as delicious desserts like cheese cake, peanut butter pie and vegan cakes.

Something to note is that most of the coffee shops and even restaurants in Stanford support local farmers and their conversion to organic practices. This builds short supply chains from the farm straight to the table. It’s a nutritious and healthy way of treating yourself to wonderful artisanal goods. Once you’ve enjoyed delicious meals and a great cup of Joe or two, don’t forget to take a walk through the village. You can visit and enjoy art shows, book shops, antique stores and even junk shops for bargain hunting.

One of the best times to visit Stanford for freshly baked treats and aromatic coffee or tea, is definitely for the Saturday morning market from 9:00 to around lunchtime. It’s situated on Queen Victoria Street and locals provide delicious home-made food, artisanal cheese and chocolate, as well as farm-fresh desserts to die for. You can also stroll through the stalls for beautiful plants, clothing and collectibles. Also take time to enjoy beverages at the market or even take a short walk towards the banks of the Klein River and even picnic with the whole family.

In short, Stanford is the kind of town where it’s advisable to arrive hungry and experience as many of their coffee shops, cafes and delis as possible. Each one has its own charm and product offering that will make your mouth water the second you walk in.
