L'Agulhas Bowls Club takes part in Overberg Premium League
Members of the L'Agulhas Bowls Club represented the club in the third round of the Overberg Men's and Ladies Premium League, which has been running over the past three months and brings together some of the region's top bowlers.
The Ladies third round was hosted by Hermanus Bowls Club, where the competition was fierce, with 10 teams from six clubs across the Overberg battling it out for a place in the next stage of the tournament.
L'Agulhas ladies fielded two teams. L'Agulhas 1 consisted of Corrie Smit, Geoleen Engelbrecht, Estelle Madden (trips) and Johna Giliomee, Diane Moller (pairs), while L'Agulhas 2 was represented by Francina Cumpsty, Madeleine du Plessis, Melinda van der Ruyst (trips) and Elmarie Bester, Alita van Zyl (pairs).
Both teams played with determination throughout the day against strong opposition. L'Agulhas 1 produced an impressive performance to finish fourth overall in the third round.
Although both L'Agulhas teams gave their all, their combined results were unfortunately not enough to secure qualification for the next round. Congratulations go to Hermanus 1 and Bredasdorp 1, who progressed to play in the Boland Bowls Premier League Final being played in Worcester on 11 July.
L'Agulhas men were also well represented in the Overberg Premium League which was hosted by Kleinmond. Team A: John Woodcock, Pieter Roux, Adrian van Zyl (trips), Jacques Prins, Andre Krahtz (pairs), and Team B: Fanie du Plessis, Piet van Wyk, Gerhard van der Walt (trips), and Vic Weston, Mike Yiannakis (pairs) competed against strong opposition from across the region.
Although they put in a determined performance, it was Caledon 1 and Swellendam who secured qualification for the next round of the Boland Bowls Premier League Final being played in Worcester on 11 July.
L'Agulhas also fielded a team in the Men's B League hosted by Hermanus: Smiley van Zyl, Cobus Engelbrecht, Hercules Myburgh (trips) and Vic Weston, Reynier Moller (pairs). They had an excellent day on the greens, finishing in an impressive second place.
The performances of both the club's ladies and men highlight the depth of talent within L'Agulhas Bowls Club and their continued commitment to competitive bowls in the Overberg region.
