Local Bowlers Compete at Overberg Mixed Fours
L’Agulhas Bowls Club was well represented at the annual Overberg Mixed Fours on 6 June 2026, with five teams taking part in a lively day of bowls played in true community sporting spirit.
Three of the club’s teams competed at the Bredasdorp Bowling greens, where the skips were Marius Rusch, Smiley van Zyl and Fanie du Plessis. Marius Rusch was joined by Andre Krahtz, Marianne Fourie and Lynette Krahtz; Smiley Van Zyl was joined by Pieter Roux, Marinda Venter and Karen Nortier; and Fanie Du Plessis was joined by Reinhardt Van der Ryst, Madeleine du Plessis and Melinda Van der Ryst.
Two more L’Agulhas teams played at the Hermanus Bowling greens, with John Woodcock skipping Iris Nel, Estelle Madden and Adrian van Zyl, while Jacques Prins skipped Reynier Moller, Geoleen Engelbrecht and Diane Moller.
Players faced a full programme of three rounds of 15 ends, testing both concentration and consistency. Fine weather added to the occasion, while enthusiastic play and moments of excellent bowling kept the competition lively from start to finish. Although the L’Agulhas teams did not advance to Sunday’s playoffs, the tournament offered a valuable learning experience and an enjoyable opportunity to build friendships, share laughter and strengthen ties with fellow bowlers across the Overberg.
