A Journey of Collaboration and Impact
In 2009, while working at a local nonprofit organisation (NPO), I was fortunate to cross paths with an incredible individual who would become a pivotal figure in my professional journey. The local municipality kept our NPO informed about opportunities in the surrounding area that could benefit our work. One such opportunity was a presentation hosted by the Department of Sport and Cultural Affairs, which outlined the process for securing funding from the department. It was at this event that I met Lizahn Claasen.
Lizahn was introduced to me as the cultural officer for the department, and from that moment, a meaningful connection was formed. From that day forward, Lizahn provided unwavering support, helping me navigate the challenges of working in the nonprofit sector. Her guidance was instrumental in our success, as we received two awards from the department for the impactful work our NPO was doing. Without those funds and Lizahn’s steadfast support, we would not have been able to carry out our initiatives as effectively as we did.
Now, as we embark on a new chapter with Die Lessenaar and Bright Bench, a new NPO we are in the process of registering, currently operating as a project under Die Lessenaar. I’m thrilled about the journey ahead and the opportunity to collaborate with Lizahn once again. Bright Bench will serve as an aftercare centre for children referred by school psychologists, social workers, principals, teachers, and parents. At the centre, we aim to engage these children in enriching activities such as drama, music, literature, and various forms of cultural expression.
Our shared vision and Lizahn’s continued support inspire us as we work to make a lasting difference in the lives of these children. Together, we are building something truly special, and I look forward to seeing where this collaboration takes us.
