Greyton's Free Roaming Horses at Risk
Greyton is well known and loved for its free-roaming horses. Residents and visitors alike are charmed by their beautiful faces poking over the front gate to say hello and receive a carrot!
There are however many challenges to this phenomenon. The population is difficult to control and they regularly eat plastic when grazing, with very sad consequences. The team at EARS Donkey Sanctuary work tirelessly to combat many of these challenges. Right now they’re swamped with injured foals who are particularly vulnerable to aggressive dogs, speeding motorists, fencing injuries and disease. EARS is treating as many as they can but sadly not all make it. Members of the public are urged to be extra vigilant when approaching these babies. It’s foaling season and there are many of them on the roads and open fields in our valley.

Local residents can join the EARS QUIZ NIGHT fundraiser at the Old Potter’s Inn on Tuesday, 25 October. It promises to be a jolly night out with great prizes to boot. Email toni@greytondonkeysanctuary.co.za to secure your table and team of 4 or 6.
