The Greatest Show on Earth!
It’s that time of year again… and what a time it is! Each year from June through to December, a group of outsize visitors make their way to the southern waters of the African continent. These very important guests are Eubalaena australis, better known as the southern right whale.
Whale Season 2021 is Here!
You can’t be more connected to nature than when you are standing on the clifftops in Hermanus watching southern right whales lobtailing, breaching, spyhopping and basking close enough for you to see the barnacles on their backs. If you are lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a calf being born or see cuteness personified as a proud mum goes through the patient and entertaining steps of teaching acrobatic skills to her little one.
Southern right whales are truly magnificent creatures. Some might say that this annual migratory event is one of nature’s greatest shows on earth! And, what better way to celebrate their return than by checking in at Norfolk Guest House in Hermanus this whale season so you have front row seats to the action.
